New Vision

It has been a long while, but I feel like I finally have a direction set for this blog.

I originally named this Take a Pebble because the blog was going to be about the ripple effects teachers and learners have on each other.  In a way, it is still about that.  However, there is a new twist.  I recently purchased the book How to Think Like Leonardo da Vinci: Seven Steps to Genius Every Day by Michael J. Gelb.  That, along with Daniel Pink's book Drive and the "Creative Whack Pack" by Roger von Oech, started me on a new quest to bring greater autonomy and creativity into my classroom.  I am currently reading the Gelb book, and during the summer months will be actively doing the exercises prescribed in the book, and reflecting on how I can incorporate into my learning plans for my students in the next school year.  What is most interesting about all of this is that da Vinci was fascinated by the ripples that stemmed from dropping a pebble into a pond.  Once I realized the connection between that and my already titled blog, I was on my way to the purpose it was meant for.

Meanwhile, I am experimenting with a few ideas at the end of this school year, and will be dropping in to comment on successes and failures in this endeavor.  As always, I look forward to your comments and insights along the way.

  1. Helen, loved the Gelb book myself - read it while homeschooling my oldest daught and second son. Also took a shot at "How to Think Like Albert Einstein" or something like that...look forward to reading more about your teaching and learning journey!
